We have volunteer programmes at all of our SAASA sanctuaries. Three of our sanctuaries - Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Birds of Eden or Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary are located in The Crags, near Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. Our newest sanctuary, The Hidden Forest Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Ballito in the Dolphin Coast area of KwaZulu-Natal province.
These locations both offer a huge variety of land and water based activities to enjoy on your off days and are a great base for exploring the country.
We welcome volunteers from around the world who are at least 18 years of age, hard working, fast learning, enthusiastic, prepared to cheerfully fulfil a variety of tasks and have a good grasp of English. It goes without saying that we prefer our volunteers to be passionate about animals and their welfare.
All of our sanctuaries are strictly hands-off. You will not be hand-feeding or physically interacting with the animals during your volunteer placement. Our sanctuaries are fully supported by Wild Choices and we strongly recommend that you use this invaluable resource when researching where to volunteer in South Africa.
Each of our programmes offers something different so whatever your skills, interests and experience, we are sure that we can help you find the right volunteer programme at one of our sanctuaries, that you'll have an amazing time and make memories that will last a lifetime.
For more information about each of our volunteer programmes, take a look at our sanctuary websites - Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, Jukani, The Hidden Forest.
If you'd like more information or are not sure which is the right sanctuary and volunteer programme for you, please do contact Paula, our Volunteer Coordinator. Paula has volunteered at all of our sanctuaries so is sure to be able to answer your questions and help you decide on the right fit for you. Of course, you can also volunteer at more than one sanctuary and many volunteers have spent time in both the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
If you feel that volunteering with us is not 100% the right move for you but you still wish to assist us in some way please feel free to donate money, services and/or goods to assist SAASA. You could do so by contacting us.
