This is the Wiki-definition of a wildlife sanctuary: A wildlife sanctuary is an area specially designated where it is illegal to interfere in anyway with the natural life there. Hunting, shooting and fishing would be prohibited.
sanctuary is a place where killing or capturing of any animal is prohibited except under orders of the authorities concerned. they provide protection and optimum living conditions to wild animals.
At our SAASA Sanctuaries we believe it is more, we always put the animal’s best interests first – and always remember they are the reason why we are here. Building and operating a Sanctuary isn’t easy – nor is it cheap. However, in order to give the animals the very best environment possible, we have to be prepared to “walk the talk” to accomplish this goal! You can also help us by visiting the SAASA sanctuaries (Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and Jukani). Adult visitors to Monkeyland and Birds of Eden pay R216 for a combo ticket, which enables them to go on tour at Monkeyland and stroll about Birds of Eden. Children aged 3 to 12 pay half price. The money we raise from visitors allow us to care for over 4000 birds and more than 500 primates, ranging from Madagascan Lemurs, to Asian Gibbons and South American Squirrel Monkeys, Howlers, Saki Monkeys and so forth. There are many places around the World that call themselves “a sanctuary”, but there is really only one way is to judge that for yourself! Therefore, we always encourage people to visit our facilities in person – that way you can see condition and environment the animals are in… and if they are as happy and playful as they should be, and best of all…they are free-roaming!
